[music |Heater Fan Whirring]

Wow, I should do a better job at trying to keep up posts. So many things go on and I forget what I have done so easily. I'm getting so old, lolol.. *cough, cough*
At the begining of Oct I was sent to Arizona for work. I spent two weeks just south of Phoenix working on a big trailer park hooking up the amps and taps for a big cable distribution system. My karma caught up to me and I got all the sun in those two weeks I had avoided all summer and turned a few shades darker. Kinda surprised myself a few times as to how much, lol. Not much out there except dirt, rocks, snow birds (old people fron northern regions escaping the winter), and cacti. I've never seen so many different kinds of cacti in my life, took lots of pictures of them. XD
For Halloween I went to [info]usaku and [info]nekoboy 's place for a party. I brought my girlfriend with me and fun was had by all! Played Rock Band, watched TF2 character vids and get to catch up with everyone I haven't seen since 4th of July. I really do need to try and keep in touch with everyone a lot better than I have been.
The cold weather has been setting in and I have had to switch everything over to "cold weather mode". Got the heater out and put away the fan, got a nice set of PJ's from my girlfriend to keep me warmer than the swimming trunks I have been using, started closing up windows I usually leave open and fired up the woodstove up north, the last time I was there, for the first time this season. I didn't think to wipe the dust off of it before I did so it was a bit stinky until it finally burned off the dust on the outside as it heated up. :P
Just got done with helping my girlfriend move to her new place. It's a lot closer and on this side of the bay. No more long trips to the city and paying a bridge toll to get there. Yay!!
Now let's have some fun stuff!
So that's how you draw Asian women... I've been going about it all wrong this entire time. :I

If you wish to be a part of the zombie apocolypse, be buried here!! 8I

Well, the first third of the year is over and now all the paychecks I get are mine.  Since right about one third of all the money I earn goes right to the government, (State and Federal) every thing after April 30 is technically mine.  Everything earned before that belongs to the government mafia.  )_)

Taxing the Ganja. [May. 7th, 2009|06:16 pm]

On paper, taxing marijuana looks like a good idea.  In reality, I don't see the great income of taxes from it that people are imagining.  Once you make it legal to grow, own and use, you can just grow your own.  No tax income generated there.  If you don't grow your own, the great American entrepreneur next down or just down the street will be doing it in their backyard.  No tax income generated there.
There might be some people who do pot for the anti-establishment angle but they are few and far between.  Every person I know who smokes it doesn't do it to "stick it in the face of the man", they do it to get high.  Drug use would not go down.  It would more likely explode as people who didn't do it because it was illegal, now would.
The drug lords might lose a tiny fraction of their income due to the legalization of it and people growing their own but now, with a legal outlet for their product, they can flood the market with their stuff.  They have the capital to open smoke shops on every corner to fill the new demand.  If you don't think they would do that, just look around and see how many bars and tobacco shops are out there right now.  The market abhors a vacuum, there will be people out there to fill it.
Politicians, being who they are, wouldn't be satisfied to designate the money for things like hospitals, libraries and such.  The money would go into the general fund to pay for the deficits and new programs they would want to implement.  With a new commoddity, a new beauracracy would have to be funded too, that money would have to come from somewhere.  I recall somewhere that the grand idea of the lottery was to help fund schools and they would get all the money they could use.  Problem with that is the politicians saw money designated for schools from the lottery as an excuse to take away equivilant funding from the regular educational budget.  Politicians have never permanently eliminated a tax.  The new income from pot would not encourage the ones in charge to reduce taxes on other things.  It would just be another source of income for them to use and abuse.
The tourism angle is a good one though.  I can see the Humbolt region in Nor Cal becoming quite a boomtown.  That is something that inargueable, lol.

It only took three days but now I have a new temporary name, courtesy of the County of Alameda...

Juror #8

Thankfully the trial should be short and over in a couple of days.   The judge said that criminal cases usually go for four to five weeks!  I couldn't  handle that, I live paycheck to paycheck and that would ruin me.  He said this should be a short trial so that's the only reason I am going along with fufilling my "Civic Duty".

In other news, I have finally gotten around to watching the last couple of eps. of the original Captain Harlock series.  Interesting, definately old school stuff.  :P

Thank Whatever Higher Power You Acknowledge That You Live in the USA!! [Mar. 10th, 2009|09:55 pm]

Because you could live in Saudi Arabia.
I know the US has room for improvement, what country doesn't??  But when people say that the US is such a "horrible" place and that we are treated so terribly by the injustice of our nation, they need to stop and look at the rest of the world.  There are much, MUCH worse places you could live and they aren't limited to just a few little spots in some remote corner of the planet.  I can think of very few countries that I would have any problem going to visit.
Save your energy and put your righteous indignation towards a cause that will truly help those who need it.  Write letters to your Congressmen, Senators, Mayors, Governators (lol), Secratary of State, Vice President and President.  Tell them that these countries overseas that do these horrendous things to women, who have no rights in their own country, who are treated as property on the same level as a horse, dog or TV, who can be beaten for things that women over here take for granted as very mundane, ordinary, everyday things, tell them that this is not right.  Tell them that this has to stop.  Tell them to put pressure to reform those nations and bring them into the 20th century.  (I know we are in the 21st, but they are living in 13th century rules and maybe bringing them 700 years up would help to bring them into the light to catch up to the rest of us.)
These incidents like the ones in the article above are isolated or rare.  They happen all the time, we only get to hear about the most sensational ones when the media isn't fawning all over what Pam Anderson was wearing at some gala for the Mutual Self Admiration Society, which sports personality was doing steroids or any of the other garbage they talk about.
Saudi Arabia isn't the only country this happens in by the way.  You can point almost anywhere in the Middle East and it is happening there, save for Israel, Turkey and Iraq.  And by no means is that the only region on Earth that basic human rights are being tossed in the toilet.  There are those who tout the great land of Cuba and it's wonderful health system.  Right, I will pay the travel bill of anyone who wants to go there and film yourself standing in front of the capital there speaking into a megaphone in Spanish about how the people need to demand freedom from their government.  You'd be lucky to ever be heard from again.  Also, if their health system is so good, why aren't people clamoring to go to their great world renown clincs to be healed by the best medical services in the world??  Oh, that's right, those places are in the US....

Cuba isn't the only place nearby to opress and deny rights to people.  I'm looking at you Mexico...

Rampant drug corruption in the government and violence and kidnapping in the streets.  Not winning any points for a place I would visit.  Spend some time in a Mexican jail, if you don't speak the local language or have the dinero to bail, (read bribe) your way out, prepare for a real nightmare.  The National government there demands we, (the USA) should accept the illegals crossing the border, however when illegals cross THEIR southern border, they are shot at or imprisoned with very little hope of a timely trial or humane treatment.

China has more human rights issues than you can shake a stick at.  Religous oppression, political oppression and freedom of speech to name a few.  It's easy enough to look on the internet and see how they treat the followers of the Falun Gong.  How many website have been banned in China because they mention freedom and human rights?  Most blog and journal sites are banned and citizens of China have to use offshore proxy servers to get access to them.  Google and Yahoo agreed to ban and censor web content.  Way to win one for freedom guys...
The entire continent of Africa.  Tribal wars, anarchy, slavery, (I mean currently and yes it is still happening there and not by white people) rape, murder, ethnic genocide, religous fighting, tyranny.  These things are happening in every corner of that great continent.  I suggest reading this book, Out of America if you want an eye opener.  Read the prelude there and I bet you will have a opinion change right away.
Russia is better than it was under the Soviets but speaking up there is still a bad idea.  Journalists are still having "accidents" or strangely "dissapearing" while on assignment or vacation.
North Korea.... can anyone name one GOOD thing that comes out of that place???
So please, get your voice out there, make it heard.  Yes there are things over here that need work, plenty of them but when you look past your own little sphere of comfort here in this country and see what is happening overseas it will put into perspective how really good you have it over here.

[music |Macross II Op - The Hush of 200 Million Years]

I got some Yan Yan, (a snack made by the makers of the ultimate otaku snack, Pocky) the other day. I had never tried it before so why not? It is a cup shaped package with "bare" cookie sticks that you dip into the little chocolate frosting cup inside it. Nothing out of the ordinary there... or is there??!! Printed on each of the "sticks" is a little picture of an animal and a couple of words. Pretty childish type stuff, like a mouse with the words "Best Friend" or a giraffe with the words "Long Neck". But on one of them, I saw something that lead me to believe that Gollum from Lord of the Rings works in the print and design department at Meiji!!.

Money well spent? [Jan. 15th, 2009|06:52 pm]

[mood | contemplative]
[music |Duran Duran - Notorious]

The cost of President Elect Obama's inauguration is supposed to be around $150 million dollars.  Really??  $150 million??  Bush Spent one third of that, ($50 million) and the press complained loudly that he was a wasteful person for doing that.  Now, I'm the first person who will defend a persons right to spend their money any way they want.  So really, he can spend that money on what he wants to.  He can have a big bonfire with it for all I care.  What I think would have been a great strategy for him to win the hearts and minds of his detractors or people who are on the fence even would be to take that money and do some serious good with it.
Let's just say for the sake of arguement he only spent $50 million, the same as Bush.  It's still a lot if you ask me but it could be legitimate as a precident to be set for others.  So that would leave the other $100 million sitting around to be used for other things.  It would be easy enough to spend it on a few ideas I have that could be written off as part of the celebration of the inauguration.

1. Find 1,000 families whose homes are being foreclosed on and pay down the mortgage on each one to the tune of $100k.  That act of generosity would give him so much credit and ammuntion to use against those who would say he doesn't care about what is going on with the housing market and foreclosures, no one would be able to touch him.  Besides, those families would be saved and they could keep their homes, unlike the so called bank bailout which hasn't saved a single homeowner.

2. Buy 400 brand new, state of the art, firetrucks for the poorest 400 fire departments in need of new equipment.  How much property and how many lives could be saved?  You can't put a monetary number on that!

3. Buy 2,000 new police cars for the 1,000 poorest police departments in need of them.  Once again, this would show how much he is dedicated to the community and how much he really is looking out for the interest of the people.

4. Buy 1,250 new school busses for 1,250 of the poorest school districts.  Back to dedication to the community and how much he is willing to do.

5. Sponsor a massive home building campaign with Habitat for Humanity.  They build homes for those in need on a fairly low budget.  Putting together a program that grants them that kind of money would once again do a great amount of good for families in need and the community in general.

For plans 2 - 4, not only would those vehicles do a great amount of good for their recipients, jobs could be saved and/or created with the businesses who make the vehicles and service and maintain them.  Instant economic stimulus, albeit small, FTW!!
For plan 5, even though most labor and materials are donated at little or no cost, having a good budget to work with, you could purchase lots of materials at a great bulk rate and employ a large amount of out of work construction workers.  Again, another way to get people back to work, economy stimulated and put a roof over peoples heads.

I highly doubt any of that would happen but it would go a long ways towards changing a lot of people's hearts and minds.  You will always have people who will find the bad in any situation but doing any of the above or even a combination thereof would be such a great gift to the nation.  That part can't be argued.  It would be the best gift any one person would have given to the nation, ever.
